We will offer support to any child that requires Special Educational Needs (SEND), whether this is known by the parents before attending the setting or queried following observations within the nursery: we will be supportive every step of the way.
We have a nursery SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator) that has been trained through the local authority to ensure they have the most up to date information in order to support your child. We also offer support to the key person looking after your child to ensure they have all the resources necessary.
If your child has any plans or other professionals working with them before starting with Muddy Puddles, we recommend that this information is shared with us to ensure that your child has the best possible to their nursery journey.
The nursery is accessible and deliberately designed in neutral colours in order to create a calming environment. All rooms have an outside space which include calm and quiet areas and we have sensory toys to encourage sensory play and aid communication.
Working with Parents and Carers
We work closely with all our parents to ensure seamless communication between home and nursery. However, with a child that has SEND, we work even more closely with the parents to ensure they feel supported and aware of their child’s day.
We use the iConnect system to log daily activities and ensure that all elements of your child’s day is logged to make sure nothing is missed in the handover. We recognise that routine is especially important for children to reduce anxiety, and ensure that the patterns and boundaries in place at home are continued at nursery.
We encourage parents to share activities and observations at home with staff at Muddy Puddles, in order to provide regular updates of their child’s interests so that this can be scheduled in to their time at nursery. We also plan regular meetings with parents and carers to review progress and update you with any relevant information.
